FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT
As a result of sport-specific activities over a period of time, you may experience certain muscular imbalances (i.e. certain muscles will be particularly strong and others particularly weak). This often results in poor posture and inefficient technique during performance, resulting in an inhibition of maximal energy output. By using a range of physical tests, we can help you understand these imbalances and can assess the quality of your 'primal movement patterns' (see explanation below) with subsequent recommendations for corrective exercises.
Primal movement patterns (Trademark: Paul Chek): As primal man (cave man), we developed a series of functional movement patterns to help us successfully complete our daily tasks. These patterns are made up of pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, lunging, squatting and gait (walking). All sports movement has its origin in one or more of the primal patterns, so understanding how to perform the relevant movements patterns, as well as ensuring that good muscle sequencing occurs (i.e. that the appropriate muscles are used in the correct order), helps make the athlete an exceptionally efficient sportsperson.
How you benefit:
- develop greater efficiency through improved posture
- reduce pain or discomfort levels
- breathe more easily and effectively, improving your performance
- reduce physical stress on your body with small, effective changes
